How To Keep Porn Blogs From Following On Tumblr
Anonymous asked:
Should we block all bots that follow us? Are they harmful somehow? I would like to know as much as possible.
The bots are not directly harmful to you if all the are doing is following you. What they are doing is, the owners of the porn sites who have created the bots want it to look like their website is getting a lot more human traffic than it actually has. This is because the more popular a website is, the better the chance of it ending up on the first page of a Google search. However, Google's algorithms are smart enough to identify a real human being's patterns online from a bot designed to artificially create clicks or traffic.
So these websites make bot accounts on tumblr, which is linked to their websites, and then they have those bots interact with YOUR blog, because Google's algorithm then sees YOUR activity and it is linked to the porn site. And Google thinks "Oh! This blog is run by a real human person judging by their online behaviour! (like how you type and construct sentences etc) So this website must be popular!" and then the site gets pushed up as a search result. And if a site is on the first page, then it will be the most likely site to get clicked on by somebody googling for porn, which increases chances of the site getting clicked on, generating income for the site via clicks or advertising.
This does not do anything to your tumblr account at all, except give you a false number on how many real human followers you might have.
HOWEVER
there are other porn bots on tumblr which are WAY WORSE, but they do not seem to be the kind of bots designed to follow blogs.
These bots will reblog popular posts (over a certain amount of notes) usually a picture, and delete the OP's text on it and replace it with a link to an external porn site. (sometimes advertising what it is and sometimes just posting up the link without explanation)
Other bots will directly IM you with messages along the lines of "Hey I just got home. You wanna video chat?" with a link that will either go to a pron site or, more often than not, a hack that will rob your account and possibly use it as a porn bot, locking you out by changing the username and password.
To stay safe on tumblr, the best things to do is block and report any accounts you see reblogging pictures and adding the same looking link to all of them. As well as messages left on popular posts linking to porn sites.
NEVER click on a link sent to you via IM if you don't know the person. Even if it LOOKS like a youtube link or something else like a discord link. the links are specifically designed to look as legit as possible. Luckily the text itself is usually easy to stpo, even if it's from a person you recognise or a mutual. It's usually something like "Here's something just for you, dear" or something weird like that. NEVER CLICK LINKS FROM PEOPLE YOU DON'T KNOW! And DO NOT interact with IMs asking you to video chat.
It is a good idea to block and report porn bots that follow you, however. This is because the more pron bots you have following you, the bigger your chances of getting MORE porn bots following you. And it hurts the people who create bots which deters them from focusing on you.
So porn bot followers don't hurt you directly or puts your account into direct danger. Mostly it's just annoying :/ and it IS harmful in a general way? Like it harms tumblr as a social media hub because it annoys users and drives them away, but it's not directly harmful to your blog in a way that should worry you.
It's best to block and report the ones you manage to see and catch.

i mean, tumblr makes the pics way too large xD how do i make them smaller? i have tried everything even with images, its pointless :(
Ah! :D I see what you mean!
You paste your picture into a text post, then you click on the little gear icon in the right upper corner.
There is a part that says "Text Editor" which is automatically set to "rich text"
Click on that and set it to html
Now your tumblr post will all be html code. But you can ignore all that.
Just look for the picture's html which will be in purple.
Look for where it says "tmblr-full"
then delete the word full and replace it with the word original
Don't change anything else in the html
Then click on the gear again and set the text editor back to "rich text"
your image should now be the original size.

Loss is Loss and it is so hard to deal with. Someone you like on Tumblr leaving is going to hurt and that is O.K. It just means you care. *Anonymous internet hug* *only if you are O.K. with being hugged that is* *otherwise it's an enthusiastic Thumbs up!*
Thanks anon. And hugs are 1000% ok with me.
I'm honestly really REALLY bad when it comes to like… parting ways with people. In any way at all. It's a MAJOR deeply rooted problem for me (as in something my parents noticed I developed when I was 5. Like THAT level of deep) So even if it's "just online" and even if it wasn't a friend. Just having a blog I enjoyed and that made me happy decide to leave is deeply upsetting to me.

Sorry to bother you with this question, but can you tell me what exactly is happening on tumblr? I've been off for almost a month and only came in here today and all I see is stuff about leaving site etc. Is it only related to that new terms and conditions that are mentioned when you log in or is there something else? Thank you for answer and sorry, you probably answered something similar already, but I don't have time right now to look through and I would really like to know what is going on.
about 2 days ago tumblr made an announcement that ALL visual depictions of sexual acts are now no longer allowed on the site (starting December 17th but they've started purging accounts and flagging posts anyway). This includes both photography as well as art.
It goes beyond that, however, as tumblr has also stated that even nudity is no longer allowed on their site, nor is, what they call, "Female Presenting Nipples" (whatever the hell that's suppose to mean). In other words, even artistic nudes are no longer allowed (unless its like classical art from 200 years ago or so).
Tumblr is busy closing down blogs left and right, some of which are completely sfw, (I have friend who have been waiting for 2 weeks to get their wrongfully closed blog back up) as well as purging several tags completely, including tags to do with Trans health and, for some reason, the Chronic Illness tag.
On top of this, a large number of LGBT posts, a good number of which are completely sfw, have been flagged (although considering tumblr flagged their OWN announcement post about this as adult material this might just be due to how broken their site is)
However, the pro-nazi blogs, pro-ana blogs, white supremacists blogs and such are completely left alone.
Many people are leaving if they are nsfw artists, some are leaving because tumblr's decision to, instead of dealing with their bot problem or child pornography problem just decided to nuke their whole website and people are finding that insulting, some are leaving because they want to remain in contact with their friends, and some are leaving since this new bot that is tagging things as adult is completely broken and tagging everything.
Some are leaving because they don't want their blogs falsely closed.
So… yesssss it's because of the change in terms and services… but it's also a lot more than that.
For instance my entire blog is broken at the moment and posts aren't even showing up right now except for the dash.
People are tired of tumblr and of how its treated its users for years and this was just the straw that broke the camel's back for many people.
Also, many older fandoms remember how LJ purged its users and how FF.Net purged its users and have seen the way the wind is blowing and decided to get out early.

pretty much sure that there are scripts for those with greasemonkey, just find the right script and you'll be fine
Ah! Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! <3

Oh wow, the linking back thing sounds mean :O And don't worry, they really seem like bots \O/
Yeah. It's really lame DX It's to make Google think "real people" are attached to the porn site. Because Google can more or less tell when there's actual human content vs bot content. So if a porn blog is somehow linked to your tumblr, google goes 'Oh! This is a human being! So this site must be pretty legit!' and gives the site a better chance of being a result. because most people don't scroll past the 1st page of a google search result.
and I hope so ;w; (also, sorry I'm talking too much)

SAD can affect you during the summer. It's usually known as a "winter" depression but there's a summer version of it too. Also, you talking about your issues starting to affect you around the same time you joined Tumblr makes me wonder if Tumblr itself is adding / causing your stress. This place is known to be pretty toxic, have you ever considered it at the very least? Either way I hope you start feeling better soon.
Thanks man :)
Actually tumblr has been a major help believe it or not. I use to be more active on Facebook and THAT cesspool had me actively ranting out loud to my mom about how shitty everything is basically on a daily basis. I switched to tumblr because I found my dumb fandom posts and ranting about movies were actually the status quo here whereas on facebook I would get messages that quite literally said things like "See the problem is that you care. You should stop that lol." or "Please get out of the house more <3" and stuff like that. Not to mention facebook has a bunch of family members following me. The kind of family members who would start labeling me a "bad influence" because of the swears.
Also like…. some of the local artists or people who aren't artists themselves but swing in the same circles have like… a weird stalking approach to how they deal with online social sites? Like tumblr I can say this stuff and have people understand and try to help (case in point). On facebook people read this stuff and gossip about it between themselves and before you know it you have a "reputation" in the real life "local artist social circle" just for friggen talking about things.
These same people started following me on dA btw…
So believe it or not, tumblr has actually be a major HELP, rather than a cause 8′D even though some of this site can be toxic or make me angry, it's small potatoes from the places I was trying to have social interactions originally. And has actually helped improve my mood and issues a LOT <3 And honestly, it didn't start when I became more active on tumblr. It started, and I became more active on tumblr as a means of escape from it. 8′D
(as well as abject loneliness but that's a whiny post for another day)
